Almost 0.5 million face shields have helped Polish hospitals thanks to companies from the plastics industry!

The charity campaign for medical services continues. Until today 470, 000 pieces of face shields have been produced and transferred, free of charge. Also other plastic products, such as cups, cutlery, foil bags and other necessary equipment were given to medical staff. This scale of help speaks for itself.

The number of hospitals that received help exceeded 100 already a week ago. As part of the campaign "Face shields for Polish hospitals", run by  PUPC  and other companies from the industry we supported medical institutions located all across Poland: Toruń, Krotoszyn, Wąbrzeźno, Grudziądz, Bydgoszcz, Poznań, Warsaw, Gdynia, Słupsk, Tychy, Hajnówka, Inowrocław, Tczew, Rzeszów, Tarnobrzeg, Stalowa Wola, Nowa Dęba, Nałęczów, Lublin, Jasło, Łódź, Pruszków , Raszyn, Sandomierz, Wadowice, Gorlice, Kraków, Ostrołęka, Katowice and Tarnów.

“The action of the companies in our industry is massive, and the number of almost 0.5 million shields makes a huge impression. Our  Union is listed among the largest donors during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is about the health of all of us, but the doctors and nurses who use our products are currently the most exposed to the danger of coronavirus. We are glad that face shields show the advantages of using plastic products, especially in the times where plastics are so criticized. Plastic products are to serve us all. Properly segregated and processed, they are not a threat to the environment and people” said Robert Szyman, Director General of Polish Union of Plastics Converters.

PUPC associates now over 60 companies from the industry, and is one of the largest organizations of this type in Poland. The Union represents the industry before the state administration and is the voice of polish converters in Brussels, devoting a lot of attention and energy to the topic of improving the management of plastic waste. It also promotes industry's voluntary initiatives on the way to reduce the impact of plastic waste on the environment. PUPC is an important voice on the Polish and international arena, and thanks to the initiatives taken by us, many important documents have been created to improve the work of the entire industry.

Today, plastics are especially needed for us due to its hygenic properties. They  protect people against microorganisms, including coronavirus. This is particularly important in the case of medicines, chemical products or food, which is is produced with the highest hygienic and microbiological standards and then packed in a plastic package that gives a guarantee of safety, and at the same time extends the use-by date of the product, reducing waste and the need of frequent shopping.

PUPC urges: NIE ŚMIEĆ PLASTIKIEM! (don’t pollute with plastic!)

Plastic waste should end up in appropriate containers so that as many of them as possible can be recycled and reused as raw materials.
